Welcome to the Future -- and It is Not Looking Too Good

I usually do not think about the negative ramifications of a powerful military and the expense of having one. But Johnson makes some strong arguments about what the cost of a world class military has been and will continue to be for the nation. I wish there was an alternative to the plan that is in place today and for many, many tomorrows. I cannot see at all any possibility of an American military like the one existing before World War II. Admittably, saving at least three-quarters of a trillion dollars annually from military expense outlays could be used for some really wonderful programs for our citizenry, from education to health care to infrastructure to any number of positive ideas. But I cannot see that happening anytime in my lifetime or at any point in the next half-century at least, unless the Chinese come in and conquer us and then nobody will have extra money.
