Joe Biden Slotted as Obama VP Running Mate

Illinois US Senator and Democratic Presidential nominee designate Barack Obama made a fine choice in selecting longtime Delaware US Senator Joe Biden as his running mate. Biden brings many years of experience in Congress and an excellent background on foreign policy matters, an area seen perhaps as a weakness in the Obama campaign. Biden has been in the US Senate since 1973, beginning his service at age 30 which makes him the 5th youngest senator in history. Biden ran unsuccessfully for President in '88 and '08. He has a strong record of legislative sponsorship successes on both domestic and foreign policy issues over the 35 years of his service. Biden brings an element of spunk and doggedness to the Obama campaign and likely will be among the designated campaigners against the McCain team. Biden was born in Scranton, PA, which may make him a positive in the Democrats' aspirations of winning the Keystone State and other like states such as West Virginia and Ohio. Shortly after Biden was first elected to the US Senate in 1972, he suffered a tremendous loss as his wife and very young daughter were killed in an automobile accident. To this day, Biden still commutes to Washington DC via train for an hour and a half from his home in Wilmington DE which is quite unique among elected politicans in the Beltway. He is about the least wealthy members of the Senate. The election of an Obama - Biden slate in November will be helped by Biden being on the ticket much as Lyndon Johnson was for John Kennedy in the early 1960s. Biden's long presence and standing in Congress may help an Obama Administration win greater successes in enacting legislation and policy direction which may take less overt compromise than if another individual was chosen as the Veep. And taking everything into consideration, its difficult to make an argument for a better choice as the vice-presidential running mate than Joe Biden.
