The Ronald Reagan Truths

Much of the current problems, challenges, and hardships beseiging America as a nation and in particular its middle class citizens can directly be traced back to the 1980 election of Ronald Reagan and George Bush and their ensuing twelve years adminstration between them. Today Reagan has been turned into a mystic myth, a legend, and an overwhelming big lie. Most every Republican absolutely worships Reagan and has made him into a saint. The truth is quite different. Reagan and subsequent Bush administration policies started the US strongly down the road to the economic crisis we are facing today. Strongly pro-military policies directed vast sums of money towards sometimes wasteful and overpriced projects and programs instead of towards programs for the benefit of the citizenry such as education, health care, infrastructure improvements and maintenance, natural resources conservation preservation, and new energy technologies research and development. This was done through irresponsible vast deficit spending which still is harming the American economy to this day. The Reagan years began the destructive insane obsession with Absolutist Free Market Capitalism. The consequences of this direction has been utterly catastrophic and intensely costly for most middle class American citizens. The Reagan foreign policy legacy is probably even more bleak, if that is possible, as this article points out the unbelievable blunder in Reykjavik in 1985 concerning the likely end of nuclear weapons of mass destruction offer made by Gorbachev which Reagan and his cronies inexplicably nixed. Tax policy was turned into a nightmare, moving the nation towards a huge level of income and asset inequality. What is reported in this article really captures the true honest essence of the cost of eight years of Reagan and what the legacy is today for most Americans, a reality that parallels the lowest points in the overall history of the nation.
