Four More Banks Fail

This brings the number of failures just over six weeks into 2009 to a total of 13. The latest banks that were seized by federal regulators were in OR, IL, NE, and FL. This is the first bank failure in Nebraska since 1990, and the first in Oregon since 1992. Florida now has seen two banks fail so far this year, tying it with Illinois; and one less than California which has the most closures at this early point of this year with three. The pace for closures for the full year of 2009 remains headed towards a number in excess of 100, after just 25 closures in 2008 (all but 4 after 10 July), three in 2007, and none in both 2006 and 2005.
