Dogs, The Best Thing for All of Us, Including Politicians

http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/news/articles/2009/04/28/20090428Montini0428.html

Aside from the politics in the article, there was much here that made me smile, remember, and bring a tear to my eyes.

Border Collies' New Occupations

http://www.newwest.net/topic/article/unemployed_border_collie_finds_new_opportunity_in_emerging_green_industry/C564/L564/

Yeah, another dog article, but compared to what else is dominating the news, these kind of stories makes one feel better.

Rival Train Technologies Under Consideration for I-15 Route

http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2009/apr/28/high-speed-vegas-victorville-train-line-be-unveile/

Of the two options under consideration, the maglev train system will be the one chosen despite its higher construction expenses. The time savings and placing the terminus of train in Anaheim make it the winner. Hopefully it will be up and running by the mid to late 2010s.

REAL ID Continues to Falter

http://www.newwest.net/topic/article/another_bite_at_real_id/C530/L37/

It is totally pleasing to see this intrusive and unconstitutional federal legislation slowly fading to death. It was passed by a hysterical and foolish congress led on by a wacko president sensationalizing a tragedy for political gain and domination. It was wrong then and wrong now and it cannot be done away fast enough.

A Great Idea to Take from Europeans

http://www.commondreams.org/view/2009/04/28-9

I like this idea a lot, but I think it should start at a 1 % tax. Progressively raising it after a certain $ thresholds are reached is something that should be implemented as well. The tax rate should be less for the little guy when compared to rich elites and corporations.

Southeast California amid Economic Devastation

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-imperial-valley27-2009apr27,0,576225,full.story

Ground zero for the worst of the economic collapse. This California region is truly in a depression of profound and diverse proportions.

Big Changes Fully Underway in Arctic Regions

http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/apr/28/climate-change-poles

The facts are is the Arctic region is changing massively and very quickly, with unimaginable changes only a few years ago now clearly underway. The ramifications of this change are not fully understood, but at a minimum Europe is looking at climate change on a scale that is incredible, and it will be much much different across North America in a matter of just years.

China Military Rapidly Growing Powerful and Dangerous

http://www.britannica.com/blogs/2009/04/china-to-become-a-significant-military-power-what-does-it-mean/

And meanwhile, largely being ignored around the globe, a monstrous earth shaking threat that is looming only continues to grow and become more ominous and dangerous.... there will be a significant momentous military conflict between the US and Communist China within the next generation....

The Grossly Misplaced Priorities of the Media

http://blog.buzzflash.com/analysis/735

Pakistan is burning down while the world is fiddling. The long term and even short term consequences of the collapse of this nation are far more important than this swine flu hysteria.

Also see: http://www.longwarjournal.org/maps/Pakistan/NWFP_redmap_04142008.php for a map of the Taliban strongholds now in Pakistan.

This is the Future for Electricity Generation

http://blogs.tnr.com/tnr/blogs/environmentandenergy/archive/2009/04/27/solar-power-24-hours-a-day-here-s-how.aspx

Totally incredible and wonderful....

Observations on Specter Switch

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/28/snowe-gop-has-abandoned-p_n_192368.html

I, like most everyone, was surprised Specter switched to the Democrats, but he was doomed in his '10 election aspirations in the PA Repub primary. Will Snowe and Collins of Maine follow ? Probably not but they hold a lot of cards now in the Senate especially with both being from the same state. The balance of power today shifted further from the GOP and its only likely to get worse.

Overconsumption of Red Meat Health Risks

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/28/health/28brod.html

I still have the mindset that any red meat beyond hamburger is a treat; and thus I only have it on rare occasions, unlike poultry and fish. A roast beef sandwich from Arby's is usually the most luxurious beef I have for months at a time; and a steak, roast, ribs, or another fine cut is very rare for me to consume.

Montana Agricultural Facility Shutdown

http://www.billingsgazette.net/articles/2009/04/28/news/state/18-culbertson.txt

Sad news for this tiny town in NE Montana about a half-hour west of Williston in a major drylands agricultural area.

Wilkins Ice Shelf Collapse Continues

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090428/sc_nm/us_antarctica_ice

This is a tiny one compared to what is coming in the next few years or so.

These Scenarios are Totally Unrealistic

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Worst-case-scenario-underlies-apf-15049815.html

The hysteria only continues....

Political Correctness Comes to Disease Names

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/29/world/asia/29swine.html

What should it be called ? My suggestion would be Tropical Livestock Farm Flu.
