Moldova Begins to Creep into the 21st Century

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/15/world/europe/15moldova.html

Although it will be a struggle that could last a few years, youth will prevail and Moldova will move towards becoming a part of western Europe than Russia. I foresee Moldova even becoming part of the EU and NATO within a decade.

Homemade Buttery Southern Biscuits ! Mmmm !

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/15/dining/15united.html

One of my best memories of youth was the homemade breads, biscuits, muffins, cakes, and pies made by Mom. I think its been better than 25 years, probably longer, since I had these kinds of products that were not store bought and mass produced. A couple of times when I was young I helped make pan fried biscuits on the campfire when I was in Boy Scouts. Pretty tasty, melts in your mouth, buttery.

Northern Rockies Continue Upsurge

http://www.newwest.net/topic/article/new_research_points_to_new_boom_in_northern_rockies/C35/L35/

A lot of people want out of the expensive troubled illegal immigrant laden Sunbelt as well as other regions that have a less than superb quality of life. They want to go to Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming, where it is more what America was.

Pour Some Sugar in Me --

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/15/dining/15sweet.html

The substitute sweetener story. Saccharin is totally out, Aspertame is the current favorite but questions remain about it; Splenda is a stopgap; and the new product, Truvia, is a rather expensive alternative that still has to be proven as a worthy substitute.

"
Don't bother with any of those. If you're going to eat sugar, eat the real thing, but in moderation. It's the high fructose corn syrup among other things that are making people fat." - K.S.

Texas Republicans: A Goofy Collection of Critters

Texas bolting from the US ? It is possible, but I will believe it when I see it...but this could be the first brick to fall from the wall...

Fifty Most Polluted Sites

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=7342326

Most of the sites are not in the Mountain West, but two are in CO; one in NM; three in ID; two in MT; four in UT; and none in AZ, NV, and WY. For the complete list see this:

http://www.epa.gov/superfund/sites/query/queryhtm/nplprop.htm

The Asarco site in CO is just north of downtown Denver near the Mousetrap I-25/I-70 interchange in a very old impoverished neighborhood called Globeville. A lead and other heavy metal smelting plant (Asarco) operated there from the 1880s until the 1960s coating the ground with toxic waste. Kids are not allowed to play outside in that area except in designated clean areas like parks. I have driven through this area numerous times and its quite quaint and simple in its beauty and seems to dispell the horrendous environmental mess that is lurking almost everywhere in this area.
