Mass declines in the use of the services and products offered by the Postal System have been ongoing since the onset of facsimile machines, voice mail, electronic mail, and text messaging really took off in the last several years. Many people now use the services offered by the post office only rarely. At this point, the postal service is largely a taxpayer subsidized handout for corporations. How often does one get postal mail from a personal contact nowadays ? Today its all junk mail, advertisements, or bills entirely. The days of letter writing, thank you cards, and even other celebratory cards are largely gone, as these types of correspondence are only done on very special or extreme occasions or by those individuals of the older generation. The one noticeable essential exception in postal mail sent back in forth by those in military service and their families. Recently we saw the end of the telegram after well over a century of usage. The postal service may yet meet the same fate within a generation or so, with it services largely taken over completely by a private shipping entities such as FedEx, UPS, and other like businesses.*****
