Rhinoceros Populations Growing

We rarely get any positive news about the environment, ecoystems, and species around the planet, so it is real nice to hear of this news. These magnificent powerful herbivorous African rhinoceros have had a good recovery from where they bottomed out over a decade ago. There are rhinoceros at many American zoos, including the Denver Zoo. Unfortunately, the news concerning their Asian cousins is not as good, as two of the three Asian rhinoceros are classified as critically threatened.

There are some other species that are ongoing success stories, but clearly work remains. Among the most endangered that have rebounded in numbers are the American alligator, Grizzly Bear, Bison, American Bald Eagle, California Condor, Black-footed Ferret, Koala, Goliath Grouper Fish, and South African Dragonflies

The creatures that are seen as most endangered include Bighorn Sheep, Canada Lynx, Florida Panthers, Hawaiian Monk Seals, Humpback Whale, North American Jaguars, Key Deer, Fruit Bats, California Mountain Beavers, Eastern North American Red Wolves, California Kit Foxes, Southern Sea Otters, Utah Prairie Dogs, West Indian Manatees, Polar Bears, Leatherneck Sea Turtles, and Pacific Northwest Woodland Caribous as well over one-quarter of species around the planet are threatened with extinction within 25-35 years.
