It is well known that Home Depot is on shaky ground financially and competitively, and today's news of the full fledged closure of their showcase chain of stores, Expo Design Center, is just another nail in Home Depot's coffin. Expo Design has 34 stores primarily in upscale locations in major upscale suburban areas across the nation. The closures will result in 3500 jobs lost. Home Depot itself is lurching towards inevitable extinction, perhaps as soon as this summer. They are getting waylaid by upstart Lowe's, and the actual Home Depot warehouse stores are increasingly becoming stodgy, disorganized, and characterized by lackluster, disillusioned, and unenthusiastic management and underpaid employees. Home Depot has long been beset by a myriad of operational and financial problems in the last several years, having emerged from bankruptcy already once in flourishing times. This time it will be the end.http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090126/ap_on_bi_ge/home_depot_job_cuts
