News just out finds The Rocky Mountain News will publish an edition for a final time on Friday 27 February, tomorrow. The closure and shutdown of this 150 year old regional journalistic giant that has earned a number of Pulitzer Prize Awards over the years is an incredible setback and jolt to the Front Range and Rocky Mountains region of the Mountain Time Zone and peripheral high plains communities. On a personal note, the writer of this blog feels very saddened and depressed with the passing of the Rocky, a publication which was a regular part of his daily for the most part for over 20 years. It simply cannot be replaced and there will be a definite loss in accountability for corporations, other businesses, and government in the region with the demise of the Rocky. And its strongly likely the content in other parts of the paper will be not replicated or matched in any of the remaining regional publications, particularly in its surviving rival, The Denver Post.
But we will see. Perhaps the editorial management of the Post will surprise and exceed expectations.
