Obama Gains on Clinton After Super Tuesday

The struggle for the Democratic Party presidential nomination will continue on after the results of the Super Tuesday primaries and caucuses. As of this post, the number of delegates won by each candidate was virtually even after the 22 states that were in contest were decided. Obama won 13 of those 22 primaries in caucuses. Clinton picked up an estimated 580 delegates on Tuesday for a new estimated total of 823. Obama gained about the same number of estimated delegates, 571, to give him a new estimated total of 741. Allocation of delegates is still not complete after the completion of all these Super Tuesday primaries and caucuses.

It is beginning to appear that there is a good, if not strong possibility, that things will not be decided going into the late August Democratic National Convention in Denver. A circumstance like this has not happened since the 1952 Democratic convention. A brokered convention would something interesting to observe and witness.

Thankfully, the remaining primaries and caucuses look to be relevant, at least well into March if not longer. Next up is Saturday 9 February's Nebraska and Louisiana caucuses; Sunday 10 Maine's caucuses; and next Tuesday 12 February's primaries in Virginia, Maryland, and District of Columbia.
